Preparing for recording sessions

Mark is preparing now for two recording sessions with Cappella Romana, one of Christmas music (how about that in the summer!) and the other of medieval Byzantine music from Mt. Sinai. Cappella Romana's artistic director Alexander Lingas (he and his wife Ann are our koumbaroi) is back in Portland for rehearsals and recording sessions. You can find out more at Cappella Romana's website here : http://www.cappellaromana.org, and click on "BLOG."

Beat the Bridge to Beat Diabetes

Dear All,

As many of you know, our family took part in the 25th Annual Nordstrom Beat the Bridge Family Walk to beat (type 1) Diabetes. The 4 mile walk was shared with about 4000 other participants, 6,000 more ran either the 1 mile fun-run or the 8K race. Our first step on the walk was completely overwhelming as we realized how powerful this really is. We all realized that we were not only walking to find a cure for Sarah's Diabetes, but to be sure that no one else gets it, including our family members and yours!

We walked with a team from Seattle called "Ellie's Sugar Dancers." Ellie is 8 years old and was diagnosed at about 11 months. She and her family make this walk a yearly event with a party afterward. Fortunately, we have been intimately connected with Ellie's grandparents and aunt for over 4 years in Seattle. Now, we have added Ellie and her family to our growing family.

Below you will find pictures (taken by Karen Ducey of the Seattle PI) of Mark and Sarah at the post-walk/run activity called the "Diaper Derby" which was held on the astroturf of Husky Stadium There were 4 heats for those under 3 years old: 1) crawlers crawled 10 yards; 2) 18-23 months toddled 15 yards; 3) 2 yrs ran 20 yards and 4) 3 yo's first did a jumping jack warm up and then ran 30 yards. They all seemed to come in 1st place. it was SO adorable. You'll notice our Sarah is quite a runner! She has to be to keep up with the rest of us. One day, I'm sure she'll be a runner in this race!

Hope you enjoy the photos! And thank you to all of you who were able to make it to the walk or the after-party!

Lovingly,

Mark, Kathleen, Anne Marie and Sarah!
